I remember the first time I spotted this long legged bird walking along our road on morning, I thought I was seeing things. Having come from the East Coast I had seen sand pipers, and thought this poor soul was very lost! Much to my surprise after a bit of researching this native bird is an Upland Sandpiper...it's sea is that of grasses. I love these birds, they always make me smile.  They aren't very shy, so I can get up close to watch them. They seem to enjoy perching on fence posts surveying across the open spaces they call home.

RCHS is a wonderful, local group I have worked closely with through my "day job" and the dog Spay/Neuter Laboratory we have as part of the Vet College teaching program each Fall semester. It is a great group, full of fantastic, hard working and dedicated volunteers who have such huge hearts for helping rehabilitate and rehome pets.  http://www.rchsks.org/
