Lincoln's Oasis (Lincoln's Sparrow)

Kansas is a great area to challenge birders with learning to identify numerous sparrow species. In the winter months there are even more sparrows to see. One visitor to the brushy area around our farm's pond is the Lincoln's Sparrow. Unfortunately this year's drought left our pond sorely lacking for good water, and a thick layer of green algae covered much of it's surface; but on that early autumn morning when I ventured out the sunlight reflecting off the array of colors was quite striking. As I stood on it's edges taking pictures, I was visited by several of these birds, moving and chirping about in the brush, curious about me as much as I was interested in them. They afforded me many photo opportunities, so I had to add them to my painting series!

This piece will be available later this year as part of the collection I am gathering of new work for exhibits which will be managed by Strecker-Nelson Gallery in Manhattan, KS starting in June of this year.
