Autumn Fire

Through painting I have discovered that my favorite time of the year is based on colors more than anything, and is tied to the time of day. So here you have it, my favorite, an autumn evening on the prairie, on my way home. I remember when we first found out that military orders were sending my husband and me to Kansas, we were offered condolences and told that the hills were green followed by "poo-poo brown". Well, I can tell you that after almost 30 years of living on and loving the prairie that description is so far from accurate! Yes, right now after spring fires bring bright green grasses that rival scenes of Ireland, the hot sun bakes in colors of gold, orange and purple, mauve, blue and crimson in the native tall grasses. No brown here. Set it aglow with the golden light of evening, and it takes your breath away.
