Intertwined Roots

I hiked the native grass prairie early one winter morning and delighted to see the sun's warm glow break across the dried tall grasses as far as my eye could see. One of my muses in painting is the prairie contours and shadows. As I walked toward this limestone ridge to watch the shadow play of the morning light, I passed a coyote den. Then as I stood in the rocks a cotton-tailed rabbit darted from its rocky retreat. In that moment my mind's eye put all the piece together like the interconnected puzzle that the prairie is. The grass land is rich with life, all intertwined and dependent on each other for survival.
