Morning Blessings

The month of July has been my #LeftHandedArtChallenge following my right rotator cuff surgery, as I did not want to have any break from my creative "juices" during my life as a one-armed, lefty.

Starting the evening after my surgery I began drawing with my non-dominant hand for the first time. I had low expectations for anything beyond abstract work. From pencil sketches I advanced to watercolors with ease. Much to my surprise painting was "easy". Brush strokes freer than when done with my "dominant right hand". For my 2 weeks off work I painted every day, creating a series of small watercolor landscapes. Then I graduated to larger oil paintings.

This is my first left-handed oil painting. The sunrise from about a month ago. We are in a severe drought, that morning someone nearby was getting a most wonderful morning blessing, some rain. We didn't. But I was blessed to see the wonderful display at sunrise, and remember it in this piece.

This work is heading to the Manhattan Art Center to be auctioned as part of their fund-raising event on Saturday, August 18th. Bids can be placed by contacting them in advance, or the night of their event. Opening Bid only $450.
