September and April are typically the most colorful months of the year to be out on the tall grass prairie. Wildflowers usually provide a calico of color. Not this year.

Once again the ground cried out for rain, but none came. The sun beat the ground into cracked clay. The normally lush summer grasses turned into dried, rooted hay. Few plants had the resources to blossom.  The only water was the tears I cried for the love of water and the suffering that the animals and earth endured.

Last year up in the 3000 acre British Pasture we were surrounded by the colorful landscape. This year it already looked like mid-winter, harsh and barren.

I captured the quiet beauty there still was on this unseasonably hot day. This piece was again painted with my non-dominant hand (left) in thin washes of muted color.
