Buddies Checking In

Jacobi and Harper are my 2 once wild burros which I adopted through the Bureau of Land Management's wild horse and burro program in the Fall of 2025. They have been a delight and such a great learning experience for me, plus they are so darn cute! Jacobi is the darker one, born in the wilds of California, Harper the bolder and braver lighter one, born in Arizona.

Donkeys are not small horses in so many ways, but they are very social and need donkey buddies to be mentally well. They form strong bonds. This painting was early in their time with me and together when their bonds were still forming, but they had gotten tame enough I could give them some turn out time to enjoy in our winter pasture.

Prints are available. The original will be in my Winter 2026 show at SNW Gallery.
