Evening's Hunt (Northern Harrier)

One of my favorite prairie scenes is to watch the Northern Harrier Hawks skim and hoover above the native grasses in search of their meal. They are such striking birds, and very focused on the ground so that at times they are oblivious to my presence when the wind currents send them to be in close proximity to me. That is an extra thrill to see them so close! In this painting I captured how the evening sun casts its golden glow on the autumn grasses, perfectly reflecting the bird's own warm colors.
