In March of 2017 a devastating fire swept across SW Kansas, driven by high winds and fueled by drought stricken, winter grasses. The losses were eminence. Hardest hit were the vast cattle ranches who suffered loss of their entire farms, homes, buildings, equipment, hay supplies and animals. Thousands of cattle and wildlife were caught in the inferno, suffering significant injury or death.

News of this broke my heart as I empathized with the pain of loss they are feeling, the heart ache of having to see so many of their beloved animals suffer, the memories and images that are burned in their hearts....While praying a prayer of thanks to the countless people who were giving their all to fight the fires, and help the survivors, God led me to have the idea of creating a painting and auctioning it off with the proceeds going to the Ashland Community Foundation, Fire Fund, which is directing monies to the areas of greatest need.

The auction runs until mid-night on April 1, 2017. 100% of proceeds will go to the organization.

Painting depicts two cows during a bonding moment. A peaceful time in summer pastures with verbena blooms. The shape of Kansas radiates around them, finished in real metal leafing. Painting is unframed
