What Is A Weed? (Henbit)

In our region of Kansas the color that defines April is pink. The tree lines burst with redbud trees in bloom, and across the landscape you can see dormant crop fields bright with color like this. Henbit grows so thick and perfect it looks like it was planted in the rows, but alas, it is considered a weed. Like the saying goes, what is a weed, but a flower growing somewhere other than where one wanted it....

The day after I shot the reference photo for this painting the neighbor farmer was in that field spraying herbicide to kill off all this "weed" and make the ground ready for Spring's planting.
