This piece was painted on location out on the Konza prairie for my Second Saturday Paint Out on June 8, 2019. I was granted painting privileges out on the non-public side of the prairie in an area dubbed "Butterfly Hill." It is where special tours are given to for people to experience and see the rich diversity of plant life in the tall grass prairie. June is traditionally rich with a variety of wildflowers blooming.

After our lunch break I shifted my subject lower down on the hill side and looking North Westerly. The clouds became the muse for this piece as they cast wonderful shadows on the characteristically shaped Flint Hills landscape. I worked for just about 2 hours before the gnats and flies started attacking us, after being bitten in the face several times I decided to call it a day! But what a great day it was!
